Woman arrested for manslaughter in Lake Elsinore fatal accident
Police have arrested the driver of a car that crashed in Lake Elsinore last week, killing the passenger. According to a news release issued by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, 30 year old Jessica Cuevas of Menifee was the operator of a 1999 Honda Accord that left the roadway and struck a tree near Lake Street and Coal Road on Monday, May 5. Deputies believe Cuevas may have been intoxicated at the time of the accident.
An earlier release issued by the Sheriff's Department said that officers arrived at the scene around 1:47 am and discovered Cuevas lying outside of the vehicle along with the deceased passenger. The man killed has been identified as 36 year old Jason Clay Peters of Fallbrook.
According to the news release, officers at the scene noticed that Cuevas was showing signs that she may have been operating the vehicle while under the influince of alcohol. Cuevas was placed under arrest the following day and transfered to a secured facility at Riverside County Regional Medical Center in Moreno Valley. She has been charged with manslaugther in the case.
Cuevas had been listed in critical condition shortly after the accident, although her current condition has not been released.
