Man arrested after armed robbery near Lake Elsinore

A man was arrested early Sunday after police say he robbed a business at gunpoint in Lakeland Village on Saturday. According to Sergeant Jeff Weaver with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, deputies responded to the business in the 17000 block of Grand Ave at around 3:05 pm after receiving reports that an armed robbery was taking place at the location. The man reportedly entered the business, brandished a handgun and demanded money.

After taking nearly $300, the suspect had fled the location prior to the arrival of officers. However, upon reviewing surveillance footage of the robbery, deputies recognized the man as being involved in a domestic battery incident from earlier the same day. Weaver says that employees at the business were also able to positively identify the man as Braulino Mercado Olmos of Lakeland Village.

Weaver says that on Sunday morning, officers performed surveillance on Olmos' last known address in the 18000 block of Brightman Ave in Lakeland Village, less than 1 mile from the location of the robbery. Deputies observed Olmos exit the home and he was taken into custody without incident.

Olmos was arrested and booked into the Southwest Detention Center. He has been charged with armed robbery, burglary and domestic battery.
