The first arriving officer checked the vehicle and determined that it had been reported stolen from San Diego on May 30th. He was also reportedly out on bail for a previous weapons allegation. A home in the neighborhood had been broken into, but nothing was taken, according to Landwehr. In addition, Landwehr says that text messages between the subjects on their cell phones indicate that they intended to rob an elderly man in the neighborhood, but were stopped by police before they could carry the crime out.

The three suspects were arrested and booked into the Southwest Justice Center. They face numerous allegations, including grand theft auto, possession of stolen property and conspiracy.
A brush fire that broke out earlier today north of Lake Elsinore consumed nearly 150 acres before fire fighters could get the upper hand. The fire was first reported at 12:39 pm along Interstate 15 between Lake Street and Indian Truck Trail in the area known as Temescal Valley.

Fire officials were initially concerned that the fire could burn 1500 acres. According to Jody Hagemann with the Riverside County Fire Department / Cal Fire, the fire had grown to nearly 150 acres by 3:00 pm and was burning east of Interstate 15 up a hill. By 5:25, the fire was reportedly 80% contained.

Hagemann said the fire was expected to be fully contained by 8:00 pm Tuesday evening. The cause of the fire was being investigated and there were no reports of damage to any structures. Hagemann says that four fire fighters received minor injuries and were treated at the scene. A total of 188 fire fighters responded to fight the blaze. Fire fighters were expected to remain on scene through Wednesday to mop up hot spots.

A man is in custody tonight after allegedly using a blow torch to cut a hole in a door and steal $24,000 worth of electronics from the Best Buy store in Murrieta overnight.

According to Lt. Dennis Vrooman with the Murrieta Police Department, police officers responded to the store at 25080 Madison Avenue after receiving reports of a silent burglar alarm activation at around 2:30 am. The first responding officer saw a man pushing a shopping cart toward a drainage ditch toward the rear of the store and attempted to stop the man. Vrooman says the man fled into the ditch and the officer gave chase. The suspect fled through the ditch under Interstate 15 and reportedly threatened the officer by saying that he had a gun.

Vrooman says a perimeter was established after the officer lost sight of the subject in the dark. A perimeter was established and SWAT teams from the Murrieta and Hemet Police Departments were called in to search for the suspect. The man, identified as 29 year old Gabriel Anthony Cardwell of Oceanside, was eventually located in the back yard of a residence in the 25000 block of Monroe Ave. at 5:41 am and taken into custody.

The Murrieta Police Department believes Cardwell used a blow torch to cut a hole in a metal door to the rear of the store and make entry. Vrooman says that surveillance footage from inside the store allegedly shows Cardwell running through the store and filling two shopping carts with over $24,000 worth of digital cameras and other merchandise. A U-Haul truck that had been reportedly rented by Cardwell was also located along Monroe Avenue, east of Interstate 15 at the end of the drainage ditch to the rear of the store. Vrooman says a torch was recovered from the truck.

Vrooman says that police are looking into whether Cardwell was involved in a similar burglary incident in Oceanside last week. In that incident, a similar method of entry was used and similar items were taken, according to Vrooman.

Officers from the California Highway Patrol, Riverside County Sheriff's Department, United States Customs and Border Protection, Escondido Police Department and the Hemet Police department assisted the Murrieta Police Department with the perimeter and search, according to Vrooman. Cardwell was booked into the Southwest Detention Center and is being held on $500,000 bail.

<!--
